No primeiro pavimento, os caixilhos foram associados a brises formados por chapas basculantes de 45 cm de largura. "Por serem largas, as chapas não dão a sensação de serem grades", explica Corullon. O hall, iluminado pela grande clarabóia retangular, dá acesso aos dois dormitórios e à suíte, conectada ao escritório por uma passarela que "flutua" sobre o volume de infra-estrutura.

O reforço estrutural, assim como a criação do volume técnico, foi igualmente importante na criação de espaços livres e contínuos. O projeto pôs abaixo as paredes e estruturas que compartimentavam a antiga planta do sobrado. Em substituição ao antigo sistema estrutural, uma seqüência de perfis metálicos perpassa transversalmente a casa, apoiando-se somente em suas extremidades. Vence, assim, um vão de 7 m, sem apoios intermediários. "Também tivemos de reforçar os pilares de concreto que delimitam a cozinha", acrescenta Cedroni.

O piso foi outra estratégia adotada pelo projeto para dar continuidade espacial entre sala de estar e pátios externos. Placas de concreto pré-moldado cinza criam uma superfície única e nivelada, conferindo unidade arquitetônica ao conjunto. Abertas, as portas de correr independentes, feitas de alumínio, proporcionam uma integração total do espaço interno com o externo, com até 3 m de livre passagem. Adornados com espécies brasileiras como guaimbês, palmitos e pau-rosa, os pátios são revelados pelos generosos vãos da construção.

UNIFIED SPACE
The key intervention performed during the remodeling of a two-story house in São Paulo was the organizing of the building plan with a linear volume concentrating the equipment and technical installations of the house. This "technical volume" organizes the space by dividing the ground floor into two different areas: services and social/leisure. According to Martin Corullon, member of Metro Arquitetos together with Gustavo Cedroni and Anna Ferrari, the solution provided the main living room with the largest visual dimension possible, 21 m, corresponding to the length of the lot.
The richness of free and continuous spaces, visually integrated to the exterior by ample and well elaborated framework also privileges natural lighting inside the premises.

The structural reinforcement, as well as the technical volume, have been equally important in the creation of free and continuous spaces. Replacing the former structural system, a sequence of metal profiles passes transversally over the house, supported only at their extremities. They thus cover a 7-meter span, without intermediary supports. The gray, pre-molded concrete floor was another strategy adopted to provide spatial continuity between the living room and the outer patios.
